From Active Directory to Stand Alone Workgroup Server

B

Brittany

We just backed down from Active Directory on our server and made it a Stand
Alone with just a WORKGROUP name. All of our workstation EXCEPT the 3
Windows XP workstations are connected to the SERVER. The Windows XP
workstations can only see each other--no other workgroup computers.

What do we need to do either on the 2000 Server End or the XP end to make
them part of the workgroup. We have removed the domain logon from the XP
machines but still have no workgroup access.

Help.

All of the user accounts must exist on the server for the workstations to
access it (control panel --> users and passwords). The password must be same
as is on the workstations. This is the down side of workgroups, if a user
changes their password you will have to go to the server and change it there
also. The second part is name resolution. You need to have some kind of name
resolutions for the PCs to see reach other (DNS, WINS, Hosts and LMhosts).
On the XP PC you want to make sure the Netbios over TCPIP is enabled in the
TCPIP settings
