Frequent interrruption to dial up internet connection

I use a Dell inspiron running XP pro (pre SP2) as my home computer. Access to
internet is by dialup connection (56 K). I find that my internet connection
gets interrupted sometimes frequently every 10 minutes or so and sometimes at
longer intervals (40 mins - 1 hr).

I run ZoneAlarm Pro and Norton AV - both are paid versions and upto date. I
am told that the blocking of pings from the ISP could be the cause.

Can somebosy suggest ways to overcome this problem.

This is a common dialup problem. Dialup is cut off by the provider when they
do not detect traffic on the line.

have a look here for programs to keep your connection alive. I have done a
search fro you, but what you want is a personal choice
