2nd dial up internet connection

I have one dial up internet connection that I created immediately after XP
Home was installed. Since that time I have been having some trouble with
dropped connections, cannot find server message, etc.

Can I create another dial up connection to same ISP (I am using a small
local ISP) without messing up my computer as long as I give it a different
name? I do not want to create any other problems, but since there were so
many updates applied, including a modem update, I thought this would be a
good way to make sure the problem is not in some setting that was created
automatically when the connection was originally setup.

Also, I have noticed that the automatically detect settings box is not
checked for my connection. My ISP is not one of the ones that Windows
allows you to pick from when you set up the connection--so I selected
manually dial this connection and later switched to dial only if network
connection is not present. Can I try checking this box without creating
more problems, or is the automatic dialing only suppose to work for the
ISP's fully supported by XP's list?

.
If you check dial if network connection is not present
your computer will try to dial all of the time even when
you dont want it to,
Call your ISP and get more (LOCAL) phone #'s you can add
these to your dial up list
There are many reasons why your line is dropped
too many people using the same number
a dirty line or old phone wires your best bet is to get
alternate phone numbers

Hi Lori,

Creating another dial-up shortcut will not cause any issues. Just set the
new one as default. As for the settings under Connections, you want:
Always dial my default connection.

Automatically detect settings should be checked. Proxy Server not and under
Dial-up settings verify that your user name and password are correct.
