Frequent error messages whilst gaming.

I am currently getting an awful lot of error messages every time i play on
video games (some old some new) the error messages simply read " (program)
has encountered a problem and needs to close" the pc has been formatted twice
now, I have sp2 and have since updated my graphics card (geforce2 400mx)
driver and problem still persists can anyone help me?

Let's try some basic troubleshooting. If the problem still persists

1. To see if it's a software conflict: Temporarily disable Startup
programs one at a time, starting with Firewall, Antivirus, and ad
blockers using: http://new.jtsoft2001.com/windows/startup.php

You can lookup what a program does before you disable it here:
http://www.sysinfo.org/startuplist.php

2. Run a virus scan at: http://housecall.antivirus.com Afterwards
Download & Run Spybot from: http://security.kolla.de to find any
Trojans, Adware, or Spyware which could clog up your system.

3. Click My Computer / Rightclick the Drive & Choose Properties
/ Run the "Disk Cleanup..." / Next Click the "Tools" Tab and run
the "Error-Checking" and "Defragmentation" utilities.

4. Go to the Windows Update site for everything under Critical and
Recommended: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com Some games
require a patch: http://www.avault.com/pcrl/patches_list.asp?letter=a

5. Update DirectX and your Chipset, Sound, &Video Drivers:
For all Video / DirectX / Game and Hardware Issues, I have a

Yes i tried all of the points mentioned and the error messages have since
stopped but now the computer frequently re-starts after about 5 mins of
gaming the game in particular is championship manager 03/04 and was working
fine until about a month or so ago. any help is greatly appreciated.

Your system is most likely restarting as a result of a STOP error.

To stop this behavior go to Control Panel / System / Advanced /
Click the Startup and Recovery Settings button / Uncheck the box
labeled "Automatically restart" under the System Failure section.

If the error indicates a file name that begins with ati, or nv (nVidia)
the most likely solution would be to install the latest drivers using
