I have one ore problem that I would appreciate help with! Every so often, my
computer tends to freeze, especially when online, forcing me to have to press
control, alt and delete to continue progressing. It's becoming more than a
little worrying to me. I've tried scanning my computer with different anti
viruses, in the hope of finding an errant file, but to no avail. I use my
computer mainly as a games machine, and have no problems when using it for
this purpose. I have noticed however, than when my computer is booting up,
it makes a strange noise, like a clock ticking only much faster. It only
happens during the system startup. Could this be something which is causing
the freezing problem?

Thanks again, to anyone who is able to assist!

Look in the Application log of Event Viewer for Warning and Error Reports
and post copies here.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools, Event
Viewer.
HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308427&Produc...

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double click
on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a button
resembling two pages. Double click the button and close Event Viewer. Now
start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of the message. This
will paste the info from the Event Viewer Error Report complete with links
into the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from Event
Viewer.

How much RAM memory? Try Ctrl+Alt+Delete to bring Task Manager and
select the Performance Tab. What is the Total, the Commit Charge and the
Peak?

How large is your hard drive? Is it partitioned? How much free space on
each drive / partition. How is the drive formatted -FAT32 or NTFS. To
get this information whilst in Windows Explorer place the cursor on each
drive in turn, right click and select Properties.

What is your CPU speed?

Hope this helps.

Thank you for the reply Gerry. There's a lot of very useful information.
I'll get right onto it, and see if I can fix the problem.

Thanks again!
