freezing

after problems with the pc an engineer fitted a new hd and
memory, didnt need to reinstall xp as the was a ghost
image on the computer. it appeared to be working fine then
i had to install all the sofware again, while installing
norton anti virus the pc froze. i rebooted but cant get
past select user screen, it freezes on loading personal
settings. sorry if this is the wrong group for this
question as im not sure what the issue is, thanks for any
help.

if you can boot into safe mode remove norton and try normal boot
