I have win2k I have had it on this machine a little over 3 years now and
never had any probs before but now it is freezing up on my at least once or
twice a day now what causes this? Is it hardware or is my win2k messed up?

I checked the event log out nothing unusual showing up there

Difficult to say what would be causing this. How old is the machine?
It could be hardware. And a host of other things. If the CPU
utilization is run up to 99 or 100% by a rogue process your pc will
freeze or lock-up. When the pc freezes can you access the Task Manager
and see the CPU & Memory usages? If it's way up there look at the
running processes and see what is going on, try to keep your
startup/background services and applications to the strict necessary,
your pc may be underpowered for what it is asked to do all at once. It
could also be a virus or other spyware/malware, make sure you have none
of these on your pc. If you have eliminated these as possible causes
try booting to safe mode and if you can endure it work in safe mode and
see if it still happens. If it doesn't lock-up in safe mode then you
will have to dig deeper in the Windows installation. If it does freeze
in safe mode then hardware becomes more suspect. Check all your devices
to make sure that they are properly configured and have the proper
drivers. If everything seems to be properly installed then you should
use your hardware diagnostic utilities and run a few tests.
