On both new laptop and desktop (XP home), the
screen/mouse/cursors freeze, necessitating a reboot. It
happens over and over in any application that's open.
Anyone else run across this?

More detail needed. Have you done all of the Windows
Critical Updates, do you have an updated anti-virus
program and have you scanned recently, do you have an anti-
spyware program and have you scanned recently, what
changed between the time the systems worked OK and now,
Windows Restore might work in this case, what applications
are you running, particulary if they're on both
ccomputers, what was the last program installed, there are
literally thousands of things that could cause this . . .
Good Luck !

a very easy one to take for granted -> how much RAM on both systems?
and when did you (OP) last run "tools" > "error checking" on either?
if both of these pcs are in fact new, contact manufacturer/reseller.
as s/he said, good luck kathryn ..
