Freeze-up at logo screen

I have an HP Pavilion that won't get past the logo
screen. I've tried hitting the f8 key as soon as the
screen shows up but it still doesn't do a thing, just
freezes right there. The only thing that I've done to it
recently is added Norton antivirus. It had started
running a little slower than norm after that. Now This.

I >assume< that Norton has something to do with it
but ????. Any suggestions out there for me.

Be sure to hold down the F8 key as soon as you see the
startup splash screen, and keep it down until the beeping
starts. That should bring you eventually to teh startup
window, select safe mode, and start there. If that goes
well in safe mode, turn off your newly installed stuff,
then restart normally and see how it goes. If that is OK
then you know it's what you just installed, and you can
work with that to see what the problem is
