Freeze on Network Install

Recently upgraded a computer from Win98 to WinXP Home w/ SP2. Everything
appears to go fine until it gets to the installing network part. It freezes
at this part and forces me to restart the computer and setup. I was finally
able to bypass this hangup by unplugging the ethernet cord and finishing the
installation, but soon as i plug the ethernet cord back in the port, it
freezes, even after windows has already been loaded. Any thoughts/ideas
would be appreciated as this does not seem to make sense to me at all, ive
built numerous computers and installed all versions of Windows numerous
times, this is the first time ive had trouble of this sort. thanks.

I am experiencing the same problem - for me the computer freezes as
'installing network' phase reaches the end.
