XP Home freezes on install

Because of a trojan horse, I had to redo my hard drive. I tried to reinstall
HP home. It freezes up. I have swapped out the hard drive, system board, and
the CD-rom ( all XP compatible). Still freezes up. Reinstalled an old copy of
Win98 2nd - works fine. Bought an update disc - still freezes up. Does it
with the original restore disc, a full oem copy, and the update disc.

On a full install, it freezes on a blue screen that says "Windows UPdate" -
"setup is loading windows" at the bottom. On an update install, it freezes
when the XP logo comes up after reboot.

Processor is an Athlon xp 2200. Have 256 of memory.

Any ideas? I'm stumped

I would reinstall the Ram. If you have two sticks of 128MB just swap
their slots. If you have only one stick of
256MB just change slots.
