freeze after start up Windows xp Home SP2

Hi. For the last few days, each time I start up my computer it will load to
the desktop but will freeze after all the icons show up. If I leave it long
enough several boxes (10 or more) will pop up (unexpected failure; quitting)
one box will pop up stating runtime error but I cannot see the error number
and cannot bring that box to the front.
I have to hold the power button down and let the computer do a diskcheck
(which seems to be fine) then the computer will start up and run fine.
I used msconfig to start up in diagnostic mode and it started fine.
I also ran an online virus scan (did not trust my virus program) and found
the following: Trojan.Dropper.IRC.TKB, it was deleted.

Restarted the computer and the same thing happened.

Does anyone know what is causing this and how I can fix it?

Theresa, try a System Restore. Start>All Programs>Accessories>System
Tools>System Restore. Just follow the instructions and try to go back a
week or so.

Thanks so much for answering so quickly. Great suggestion! I have always
had system restore turned on, but strangely, when I went to do this tonight,
it was turned off. When I turned it back on, the only restore point was for
tonight when I turned it back on.

Any other suggestions? I appreciate the help.
