Freeware to pan the desktop?

DOes anyone know if there is freeware which allows you to set the size
of the window area to be larger than the screen size of the desktop?
In short, something that will pan the desktop? I don't need several
virtual desktops, just one, REALLY BIG one.

I used to have a laptop where the video driver had two settings, one
for Window area and and one for screen size. THis would be so nice to
have again...

Years ago I came across a freeware that would kinda do that. If you moved
the mouse to the edge of the screen it would "jump" to the next virtual
desktop. I believe it was called something like 2X Desktop or similar. Try
Googling on that or similar for a start.

Which video card do you have? Some of the vendors (eg ATI) offer this as
part of their video drivers.

Hi John, perhaps this app:

Program: Scrollable Desktop (SDesk)
Author: (Robert Bresner)
Install: n.i.
Ware: Donationware
http://www.nearestexit.com/sdesk/

SDesk is not a multi-desktop program. It is a program that creates a
single, giant desktop that extends beyond the visible region of the
monitor.

SDesk has been tested with Windows NT4, Windows 98, Win2k, and WinXP but
should work with any 32bit Windows. Nothing fancy going on here.

If you use an Nvidia graphics card, the driver already has that function
built in.
