My Babya Photo Workshop has a B&W to color function:

Download v10.6:http://www.winsite.com/bin/Info?19000000037114

Hiya,

Thanks for the info and link!

I've downloaded & installed the program but am having some teething
problems - which might be because of the file size I first started
using.

Anyway, I'm experimenting with smaller files (which has cleared the
initial problems) but I haven't made much progress with converting
from b&w to colour.

To be honest, I'm not very familiar with graphics programs so I would
be very appreciative of any help/advice you can give.

When I try to open Effects FX Studio I get an error saying "Component
comct332.ocx or one of its dependencies is not correctly registered
(etc.)" - is this where I should be looking to do the conversion?

I've downloaded it but am still not making any progress. Eric Huebner
gave a link suggesting this program is some kind of joke - is that so?

I would really like to be able to convert b&w to colour but I'm too
dumb to know if its possible or not (using freeware) - can anyone help
please?

Hello,

Huebner gave a link suggesting this program is some kind of

even some of his products actually do *SOMETHING*, it always is
a mixture of adopted/relabeled open source from others, and
badly designed shit from aafuss himself. Just bad software.

Your pictures are black and white and you want to make realistic
colored pictures from them? This is nothing more than a complex
artistic act, no automatism is possible for this. What software
should guess, which part should go red, blue or green, what's
the best color for skin of people.

If you want to paint for this, you need a more sophisticated
application with at least layer support. I can't guess at the
moment, what is the most efficient tool for your needs.

Maybe try:
http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/
http://www.eecs.wsu.edu/paint.net/

You'll need lots of time and inspiration...

I remember there were some colorized B/W movies in the early
nineties (or earlier/later), and the don't really looked
realistic. I prefer the originals.

Regards,
Thorsten

As Thorsten says in his post, coloring B&W needs an image editor
with layers, and a fair amount of practice. Ultimately it comes
down to the skill of the person doing it, rather than technology:
it's primarily an exercise in painting using digital tools,
rather than a straightforward exercise in digital conversion.

Poking around on google, there seem to be a number of books and
workshops (paid for) on the subject, so it's probably a case of
finding a layering editor; seeing if it's got any help on
colorizing; and giving it a whack.

(I use a paid-for image editor off a cover-mount disc; it has a
colorizing tool. I'd imagine the free image editors that
Thorsten recommended have something similar.)

Oh well 'sigh'

I hope you believe me now!

Try downloading the same file from and then run regsvr32
"comct332.ocx"

So why didn't your "program" take care of both details in the first place?

There's no "click here to colorize your b/w pic". Computers aren't
powerful enough to do that yet. You have to colorize the picture.
