meowmom

Please don't be sitting there LOL at me ;)

The new machine I got had a free subscript to McAfee Secur Cntr and
it's
running out.

It is a great PAY prog, but looking for freeware that will be equal or
better.

Thank you :)

Thank you xtort :)

I was thinking Antivir - but the McAfee also has anti:
spyware
spam
(virus)
hacker (firewall)

I have antivir and a couple freeware-anti-spywares I was thinking of,
just didn't know if
I could slim down on a couple progs.

Thanks :)

Thanks (also) Barney :)

No problem. Just install it and forget about it. It has a screen saver
that will test your system while idle. Updates are just about daily and
automatic. No signature on your email either.

Freeware alternatives exist for all of those components. As well as the
antivirus feature, you absolutely must have a firewall of some sort. The
anti-spam and anti-spyware components are, arguably, secondary. Are you
running XP? If so, at least be sure that the Windows firewall is
activated after you uninstall your McAfee suite.

Ian.

Thanks everyone for the great replies.

I found R-firewall, seems to be doing great so far today , and the Antivir
seems to be a great choice or Avast.

One can never be too over protected, I'm thinking of running Antivir and
Avast, with R-Firewall.

They had Norton and McAfee both on this machine.

Think I'd sleep good at night that way LOL

Speaking of which, you all have a good night too! TTYS!

I'm using AVG free edition with Sygate Perosnal Firewall. Seems to be a
good combination. Using with Windows 2000 Pro.

I've been trying Clam AntiVirus (http://www.clamav.net/) for a week or so.
No complaints so far. It's an open-source project, and seems to have a fair
following if you look at the "who's using it" page.

..:::: points to himself ::::

Not real-time, I might add, but as an "auxiliary", to KAV (payware). Nice
proggy; ClamAV : - )

(((Troll)))

Yes I have been thinking about KAV........ just this week I tried the
Anti-vir and Avast.

I am now just running Avast, decided not to go with Anti-Vir - I think part
of what we seek personally for progs is how the interface is, what we are
used to or looking for in a prog, and occasionally how much troublesome krap
LOL
;) we'll put up with to use it.

Avast seems a bit **less** fussy than Antivir was.

But like I mentioned, KAV is on my list to think about ...might just give
Avast a trial of 30 days or so then try Kapersky and decide for sure.

Troll----I appreciate your feedback, candor, and wit on this board :)
