Freeware for video MPG splitting without re-rendering?

I can google in the archives for an MPG splitter but was curious about
one thing ... to give an analogy, when I use MP3Trim, I can cut an
MP3 audio file down in size without "re-rendering", as it were
(without software doing the whole wav thing). So it's fast and easy
and in seconds I have an MP3 clip that's ready to use. If I have to
use an MP3 editor, that is not the case, plus there might be loss
issues. I'm wondering if the video MPG file format has something
similar. I have video editing software, but nothing that will allow
me to cut out pieces of MPGs without re-rendering.

I've created VCDs of workout DVDs I've bought where I've chopped them
up to make VCDs that play straight without the extra talking and the
parts that have one "fast forward to the cooldown if you're only doing
step one" type of portions get cut out. btw, that is so that a 60
minute DVD workout can be made into 2 other separate fully integrated
VCD workouts without the fiddling so one can play them straight.
That's so I can get one for 20 minutes and one for 40 minutes, that
type of thing.

Thanks, guys.

TMPGEnc can do it -- select start/end of desired portion, then save
as MPG without re-rendering the compressed data.

Really? Thanks. Will look into it. I have this app, didn't realize
it could do this. I'm assuming it'll keep the same file format and
won't change it on me?

Thanks.

Be aware it's under the File > Mpeg tools menu.

The file chopper v 3.5 can do excellent file splitting
i ve been using it for a while Works fine splitting mpg, mpeg files
and every other kind of file
very simple to use
set base size(the size of certain file after spliting) and it works pretty fast
The program is able as well to restore the splitted files back to the original size
see on file menu-select one or more files to split- and -split the files

File splitting does not equal MPEG cropping. And you failed to mention
that File Chopper is TRIAL software with a 30-day timeout (not freeware).
