Hi,

Is there anywhere I can get a freeware collection of 'Flags of
the World' images/icons (and US state flags if possible!) that I
can use either on personal or commercial websites?

I've tried

http://www.auscomp.com/index.html

but everytime I submit their form I just get a blank page! :(

Thanks in advance,

You could also ask in a graphics or binaries newsgroup too for image
requests/information. :)

Thanks Dszady - I had a look around their website but it doesn't say
whether they can be used commercially which I had better be sure of.

It really doesn't say not to.
Unless you are in a hurry. I find that sending them a friendly e-mail
explainng you what you want to do with the flag(s)would get the results you
want. Save the request and the permission.

I've got 102 flags (icons) on my site that you are free to use as you wish.

www.it-mate.co.uk (click Icons, listed under Free Software)

Hi Steven,

Thankyou for your kind offer. I don't know if I'm doing something
wrong but I'm unable to download the icons - I clicked on icons in the
entry page which took me to a page with 'download' on it (the one
which says "Over 5000 icons in the Ur I.T. Mate Group icon library.
Available both online, and as catagorized downloads.") but when I
clicked on 'download' I was taken back to the entry page! Hope you may
be able to put me right :)

Regards,

This website permits use of their collection when you refer to their URL
in your own website.

Thanks Lord Possum,

I'ld rather not=put a link on unless I have to so I hope to look at
Steven's icons first.

Guess I'm asking for a lot for nothing! :)

Thanks Boomer - I'll give that a try if nothing else turns up
here!

You're welcome. Of course I suggested those because they are more on
topic, for graphics, than this group which is about free software.
:)

Good luck.

Hi,

Is there anywhere I can get a freeware collection of 'Flags of the
World' images/icons (and US state flags if possible!) that I can use
either on personal or commercial websites?

I've tried

http://www.auscomp.com/index.html

Do a google on "CIA World Factbook".
The 2002 edition has a "Flags" subdirectory with 512 gifs (2 different
sizes for each flag) and 257 HTML descriptor files.

If you don't fancy downloading the whole of the CIA factbook let me know
if your email address is valid. I can send you a gzipped tarball (1.5 MB)
or a bzipped file (1.2 MB).

Regards
Gordon

The World Flags are excellent Ben & just what I wanted - thankyou! :)

With regard to the state flags, I live in England and presume that
they are in the public domain too - I couldn't find anything on the
nrcs site specifically saying so.

Thanks again,

Thankyou for the info & offer Gordon!

I would like a copy of the factbook please - I'm not sure if msn will
allow such a large attachment through so if you wouldn't mind
substituting aol for msn then that would work.

I'm not sure which would be the best format though because I only have
winzip running on xp - whichever you think the most appropriate & then
I'll find an unzipper.

Thankyou! :)

Further to the state flags - I just clicked on one & it says:

To Use this graphic Copy this URL
http://policy.nrcs.usda.gov/img/gaflag.jpg

so maybe they shouldn't be downloaded?
