Freeware alternative to PC BugDoctor?

E

Is there a truly freeware alternative to this PC Bug Doctor program for
Windows XP? I used the free version, which "identifies" a heinous number of
"errirs" but only the paid version will fix them. Or...if you know how to
do a Scandisk on XP, I'd be interested in knowing that too. Ihaven't been
able to locate it anywhere!

Thank you in advance! e.t.

Try Start>Programs>Accessories>Scandisk; not sure as I'm not at home now.
It's there, though. ;)

Ok, so I'm wrong...it's happened before. ;)

Is there a replacement? Different program name?

Double-click "My Computer"
Right-click on your drive
Select "Properties"
Click the "Tools" tab
Under "Error Checking" click "Check Now..."
In the ensuing pop-up, check both options and click "Start"

You may be prompted that error checking will be continued at the next
reboot. Select "Yes" and reboot.

Mmmm, maybe I'm wrong too: see MAMEngineer's reply :)

I knew this:
Start - Run... and type: sfc /scannow
Perhaps this achieves the same result as MAMEngineer's tip.

This from another group (grc.techtalk):

Go into My Computer. Right-click on the drive and click Properties. Click
on Tools. Error-checking is what you want.

Windows XP has a chkdsk command:

1. Start-Run
2. Type in cmd
3. In the Command Prompt window type in chkdsk /f

You are Awesome!!! Thank you very much! It will be interesting to see if
the "errors" PCBD gound were for real or just to sell the licensed version.

Well Gee... Sorry to have put you out so badly...

But I do thank those who came through with a viable solution...

It would be helpful if you defined what you're complaining about...I had a
stroke about a year ago and said protocol must have been filed away in a
brain cell that didn't make it.
