Any truly freeware MSN Messenger Enhancements?

Their newest version has some cute animated emoticons, nudges, etv, but the
all cost a buck or two

I've been all over looking for some freeware enhancements but I keep butting
heads with that Smiley Central garbage and a coupla others that wanted to ad
searchbars I hadn't heard of yet...No thank you!!!

Any of ya'll have a truly safe freeware alternative? I'd also like anyone
of you that knows someone connected with Trillian to nudge them a bit in
catching up. I love my Trillian, but I'd also like the cute "toys" the
original msgrs have and I'd like to see AIM Audio get going, but I don't
know who to beg...

The only real alternatives I know:

http://amsn.sf.net //stil not 100% complete but nice and opensource

http://www.mercury.to //just freeware but full-featured, sometimes even
better than the original; it supports jabber (e.g. google talk), too

Ah, we're talking *complete* alternatives. I thought the OP only
wanted freeware addons.

Well, in that case: Miranda at http://www.miranda-im.org/. Light-
weight, very customizable, in full development, good community,
connects to AIM, Yahoo, MSN, IRC, ICQ, Jabber, and I-don't-know-
what-else.

Not very lightweight, IMO. It's full of kewel feechurs, skins, etc.
and bogs down the machine quite successfully when it starts up.
