I got "Too many connections" errors, twice.
On the third trial I got through and could download the key file.

Just wondering what winrar can do that 7-Zip can't?

It's fake, and most propabily virus, spyware or other malware.
You get fooled if you wanna get fooled...

They emailed me a link to a generic keyfile which,
inside its rar envelope, is a plain-text file. I
guess they fooled me good.

Well, maybe I have been wring then...

But there where just to many things which made it look like fake, and
normally, 99.99% of such announcements are fake.

"Please remember that your license key file is valid for the WinRAR
3.51 non upgradeable version of WinRAR only."

Pity they don't provide a download link for the "3.51 non upgradeable
version". One gets a "license key" but nothing to licence !

Is the "3.51 non upgradeable version" different from the 3.51 that is
a previous WinRAR release ?

Regards, John.

Damn; you just REFUSE to quit. WHY the seemingly ever-present need to point the
potentially-unwary towards a (again, potentially) site with doubtful
"parentage"?

Something about this "free offer" _really_ STINKS, but I don't think that
stench is Hanseatic cod.

The key they sent me works with the English version 3.51 downloadable
from <http://www.rarlab.com/>, at the bottom of the page. I guess it
would work with the other language versions also.

Thanks "»Q«". I saw the 3.6 release but didn't notice the 3.51
one. :-(

Besides, I didn't know whether the "3.51 non upgradeable version" was
the same release as the previous one. Or a "special edition".

Just wondering what winrar can do that 7-Zip can't?

Custom installer scripting? Puting any icon as SFX icon, ability to
put shortcut on desktop/start menu after "installing" program?

Have you ever tried it more seriously than "Add to archive" and
"Extract here"?

Ivan.

It was a hard 2-hour job for my refresh button, but it finally worked (20
min - enter page, 30 min - submitt data; 70++ min - open link from email).
