Hello everyone.

I used to be here regularly some 2 1/2 years ago [my wife died abt 2 yrs
ago]
and I still recognise some 'noms de keyboard' ...
I think Genna has left, SOS doesn't look like he's here
<Waves, in case SOS is lurking>

I've returned because I have an idea to submit:

It would seem that the group has done an excellent job in covering the
freeware which is of leadership quality ...

What about free services ?

I'm thinking in terms of [but clearly not limited to]:

e-zines:
[we recently saw the desertion from L'gnome]

photo sites:
Web shots is pretty good but I saw another recently
and maddeningly, I lost it.

Fax:
What if there were fax sites which allowed users to send faxes ?

Map sites:
We all know of Maporama, Mappy and many others

Land photography:
Sites which can show a photo of a specified site

Accounts:
Free accounts [notes on restrictions and caveats would be useful]
Yahoo, Gmail etc., come to mind

Site hosting:
Well, maybe not free .. but VERY cheap ?
Something like 'dyndns' comes to mind

These are a few ideas I came up with while tired [way past my bedtime].

No doubt, there are others and don;t bother to criticise what I
compiled inside a few minutes

Just consider, if you will, the spirit of the idea and post comments ?

Safe computing !

There are a couple of good sources for this type of information. The
first is
an offshoot of this group devoted to "webware" (free online software),
but it has not been kept updated this year:
http://www.pricelesswarehome.org/acf/Webware.php

The second is a blog, which covers new developments in webware and free
web services:
http://eoff.blogspot.com/

Hello everyone.
<snip>
Hi $inatra!
I'm real sorry to hear about your wife.

SOS is indeed lurking I expect, Genna is too maybe, there are a few of the
old gang still here, but nothing like before the onslaught of readers
created by that magazine article.

Good to see "Ole Blue Eyes" again...;0)

Thanks for the information.

Looks like there's not enough interest to go wild about the idea ...yet.

LOL "offshoot of this group"

It's an *alt.comp.freeware* web page - just like the site says. . .

I've been playing catch-up with the ACF program information pages -
haven't gotten to the Webware page updates yet. . . real soon now. . . ;)

Susan,

Now I know you don't have a life (outside ACF) <big grin> As always,
even when I disagree with you or "want more" of _your_ free time --
thanks for the hard work.

$inatra

(Very) Belated condolences from us all.

I hope you have several great sites to contribute to Susan's list. I
think this type of list/task lends itself to a Wiki (with history).
After undergoing a shakedown, it could even be made part of the
Webopedia (just an idea).

YW. :) Thank you for all your good suggestions. . .
many of them implemented. . .
sometimes after a long pause. . . ;)
