Free P2P net progs...any good ones anymore?

I used to use Audio Gnome, it won't work with my new computer...I wonder if
there's any decent d/l progs left out there or if it's a dead issue now?

Thanks but I was hoping for an actual suggestion that would not include
possible ad/spyware, the most connections, etc.

But perhaps doing my own work is a better idea anyway. No sense asking for
trouble.
 
Shareaza is a great Gnutella / Gnutella2 / eDonkey / BitTorrent client, and
in some cass i had better perfoemance from Limewire,somewhat nagware
(reminds you there is a pro version), but free all the same.

Instead of Limewire you can use Cabos or Frostwire. Soulseek is great
for full and rare albums (but it takes days to download something).

I use Shareaza v 2.2.1.0 in windows98 and windows 2000. Do not
know which other OS is runs under. www.shareaza.com
This software is open source, no nags, etc. "shareazalite" and
"pro" are straight ripoffs that you'll want to avoid.

I agree with previous users. I just wanted to add 2 details.

In some cases, eMule had returned me more results than Shareaza. At my
system, if my Shareaza search fails, then I search again with eMule. I
like more Shareaza, but sometimes only eMule gives me the correct
results.
I can't compare them. They are both excellent tools for general P2P
use. If you can find the time, install them both and decide which one
better fits on your needs (I have installed both).

Ofcourse take your precautions before file sharing (regular full system
backup-restore points, live antivirus and antispyware shields, always
behind firewall).
NOT all guys out there are users. They are virus spreaders, spammers,
advertisers, and agents too, trying to install their malware no user's
system with fake files.
So even with Open Source products (= no malware), you have no guarantee
against fake files, so don't open anything without real time
protection.

Sharaza also accesses the eDonkley/EMule network. I reckon Sharaza is a
very nice program for the OP: glossy finish (is that good?), good
function and stable.

There was a lot of positive comment here about uTorrent recently. ISTR
I posted a basic intro to torrents on that thread for someone.
