I work on my website remotely on a desktop and laptop. I have tried
Synchonize option in "Remote Web Site View" without the success I was
hoping for, that is to be able to work on my website on the laptop or
desktop... Synch to either upload or download the most current
information.

Example: I work on the website (laptop), synch with remote website. At
my desktop make some changes, synch with remote website. Changes made
prior on the laptop should download to the desktop and upload any
changes made on the desktop to the remote website. This process would
be repeated on the laptop to synch changes made on the desktop.

Am I looking at this right? FP2003 Help states:

"When you synchronize files using the Remote Web Site view, files on
the remote site will be downloaded to the local site."

So, its one-way only??? Remote to Local???? Synch to me means, which
ever information is "newer" replaces the "older" along with "brand
new" information. i.e. The way your Ipaq or Plam synchs with your
desktop(s).

Should I use a different method of using/synching my laptop and
desktop? i.e. Use laptop, publish to remote AND later publish directly
to the desktop?

As soon as you open FP on either machine run a sync, then when done working on that machine run another sync

Do you mean: Laptop, publish to remote, then sync laptop to desktop
via network (and visaversa)? OR.... Laptop, publish to remote. Open
remote on desktop and sync remote to desktop? Which method is better?
The former would seem to be quicker. Please note that no one else is
editing the site except me.

Thanks for your help.

On either machine, Open remote, sync (publish to) that machine, close remote
Then Open local & Edit, and sync (publish to) remote

(FP2003 lets you sync local to remote w/o opening the remote first)

Stefan, here's what happened.

I made a change to my homepage with my desktop, then published to
server. I opened the server (as local) on my laptop. I did a synch
with the laptop version (as remote website), FP2003 flagged the server
homepage in conflict with the laptop. Why? I am doing a synch so it
should just update the laptop file with the file off the server. I
told FP to overwrite the laptop file because I know the server file is
more current. After all this, the remote web site/local web site
windows show the home page in conflict (they have the exact same
time/date stamp). I don't understand why this is not working for me.

Under Remote Website Properties/Publishing Tab/Changes. I am using
"Determine changes by comparing source and destination sites". I am
wondering if I should use "Use source file timestamps to determine
changes since last publish". I have'nt used this in the past as the
help file states: "If you publish files to the remote Web site by
using more than one computer (my situation) or if other people publish
files to the same remote site, it is recommended that you select the
first option. (which is "Determine changes by comparing source and
destination sites").

Again maybe I should try timestamps, as it is presently, synch is not
working for me.
