FP web publishing does not work

G

Guest

I use the FP 6 years now. I use now the FrontPage 2002.
When I try to publish at the web, after entering username and password, I
get after a few minutes the ERROR :
"Could not find a web server at 'ftp location'. Please check to make sure
that the web server name is valid and your proxy settings are set correctly.
If you are sure that everything is correct, the web server may be temporarily
out of service. "

Any help ?
My ADSL provider is different from my web hosting provider.
Can this be a problem of "RESOLVING web NAMES" ?

please help

Your host server either supports the FP Server Extensions or they don't

To find out see
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;828909

If the do see
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;825528&Product=fp2003
(do not use the optimize options if you don't understand their impact)

If they don't see
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;825503&Product=fp2003

Use of a FTP program on a site with the FP SE will corrupt the FP SE
- have your host repair them

Dear Stephan,
I see. My host (OTENET, the largest Host in Greece) is running the FP SE
indeed.
So after your last recomendation, I asked them for SE repair.
Actually in the past I had used CoffeeCup without such side effects.
My host needs some time to repair, so I will keep you informed about the out
come.

Anyhow, viewing one of my pages in browser, when I try from File Menu to
Edit in FP, I get the message "An eeror occured accessing your FP web files.
Authors -if authoring against a web server, please contact your webmaster for
this server's site. Webmaster- please see the servers's system log for more
details."
Does this give you more clue of the problem ?

Thank you Stephan,
best regards from Athens Greece

With FrontPage extensions you must use HTTP to access the site, not FTP.
Using FTP will corrupt the extensions.
To open the site in FrontPage:
File->Open Web or File->Open Site
Use an address similar to http://www.example.com for the
location. (replace examole.com with your domain).
The http:// is very important.

Do you mean that FP is FTP? If it is FTP maybe Frontpage doesn't support the
FTP Location

Dear Ron,
I was doing FTP for more than 8 months now with no problems.
Strange, isn't it ? Finally I got stuck 2 weeks ago.

My host had repaired FP extentions this morning. Then I did again FTP 5-6
times again, so I guess I corrupted the extentions once again.
Finally I started doing HTTP on my own. The job started going through, but
after 1-2 minutes, I got again the error message, this time indicating erron
on Port 80.
Do I have corrusted again the Extentions, or this something else ?

with thanks to you all and LB too
