FP forces local path to image

I've used Front Page for several years but have never
encountered this before. Front Page forces a local path
to image files (like "file:///C:/Documents and
Settings/Owner/My Documents/My Webs/office/birds.jpg")
rather than allowing me to simply put in "birds.jpg". It
changes back to the local path even when I enter it
manually. The effect is that when I publish the web to
the Internet the images don't show up.

I finally figured out that you can work around this by
editing the HTML code but that sure seems cumbersome. Is
there any other solution? What am I missing? This has
never happened to me before and I've made dozens of webs
in the past.

Thanks!

There are several reasons why this might happen:

1. You opened and edited the page without opening the web first. In this
case, as FrontPage has no ability to discern that the page is part of a web
without having the web opened, FrontPage will simply create a file URL for
the image.

2. You inserted the image in the page without importing it into the web
first. As the image is not in the web, FrontPage must assume that the URL is
an absolute file location on the Hard Drive.

Thanks, Kevin. I'm really not sure what's going on. I
tried closing the web, closing FrontPage, reopening the
program and then reopening the web before making any
edits, but it still happened.

There's also no doubt that the image is in the web, as
I've used it on several pages, some of which will accept
the simple "birds.jpg" image path whereas some others keep
changing back to the the full local path.

Oh, well. Thanks very much for your help.
