FP can no longer find my local webs

I'm using FP 2000 and IIS 5.1 with Win XP. My local webs (http://localhost/)
are mapped to C:\Inetpub\wwwroot. Everything's been working fine until
recently.

Today I tried to open one of my local webs in FP, by using File + Open Web,
and double-clicking on "localhost" in the Open dialog), and I get a message
saying "Documents in this folder are not available. The folder may have been
moved or deleted, or network problems may be preventing a connection to the
server." The message is nonsense because the folder is on my C: drive and in
fact FP can open it fine if I go to it via my C: drive rather than via
"Localhost" (but I need to be able to go to it via localhost). In IE, all my
local webs (e.g. http://localhost/davesweb/) load fine - they just don't
load in FrontPage. In IIS, if I click "Default Web Site in the explorer pane
and right-click Properties, then the path shown under "Local Path" on the
"Home Directory" tab is shown correctly as c:\inetpub\wwwroot.

If I open (for example) http://localhost/davesweb/ in IE and select File +
Edit with Microsoft FrontPage, I get a message: "Server error: Cannot open
"frontpg.lck"; no such file or folder.".

When I then click OK, the individual web page opens (and displays correctly,
which means it must be picking up its linked css file alright), but the
website doesn't load (so in Folders view, nothing is displayed).

What's going on, and how can I fix it?

Dave

Instead of clicking on the localhost icon, try manually entering the path at
the bottom of that window http://localhost/davesweb and hit the open
button...see if it works that way.

No it only works if I select the path "C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\".

You have corrupted the FP extensions for the root web, you will need remove and then reapply,
however you will also have to recreate all subwebs.

Once the web has the FP extensions, you should never open it as a disk-based web
(C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\) only as a server-based web (http://localhost/webname/)
