FP 2003 what features to use

Thanks to Jim Buyens and the other people who answered my emails.

Our web hosting provider does support FP server extensions but only on
special servers. (Either way, they are Linux boxes running Apache.)
No extra charge but they advise against going that way.

I'm reluctant to make use of FP server extensions because they take
away some of my control over what happens. And I've seen Microsoft
tout a new approach only to de-emphasize it a couple of years later.
So I'm going slowly and asking for advice.

they only limit you if you let them. it's nice to have there for the
include page resolution/ publishing etc. they're great assistance in
publishing and management and the form handlers are fine for a lot of
situations.
I don't rely on them but I like to have them there for ease of use.
I will say this though. I had lots of "odd" problems while on a UNIX
machine with the fp extensions. FrontPage just plain runs better and offers
more functionality on a windows server. database r/w wizards (asp) etc.
It's like putting diesel in a gasoline powered car and wondering why it
won't run right.
There is lots of fair priced windows server space out there why not get a
different host?
I'll help you http://nedp.net/hosting or do a search for windows server
hosting etc. a decent one is www.geo-hosting.com IMHO, with mine you get
better service. ;-)

You should find a host that has more confidence in it's abilities.

True. Canned routines, canned output, canned options. If you can write
it yourself in a vendor neutral language you are better off, MHO.

They can and do make decisions based on their global software strategy
without regard for the health of the developers or marketplace.

Not the total picture, the FP extensions allow a web developer to manage the site content locally or
directly on the remote server whether or not one chooses to use any of the webbots, this IMO is FP's
strongest point, site management.
