Found New Hardware dialog

Barbara Bradley

I am trying to install drivers for Linksys USB Wireless
adapter (WUSB11) on a desktop. Linksys instructions for
Win XP are to connect device and wait for Found New
Hardware (do not run Setup Wizard) and then install the
drivers from the CD. I don't get a chance to install
from the CD. Windows does not give me the Found New
Hardware dialog but just installs Windows drivers. I
keep uninstalling and trying again but don't know how to
prevent Windows from installing Windows drivers instead
of Linksys drivers. Can't get the Windows drivers to work.

FYI, I installed Linksys drivers on a WinXP laptop with
no problems.
Thanks for any help.

hi,

Open the device manager : Right click my computer, select manage. Click the
device manager.

Select the device that you want to update the drivers for, and double click
it. Click the driver tab, and choose update driver. Then, choose the option.
"install from a specific location - Advanced" Choose next, and choose
"search for best driver in these locations". Uncheck "search removable
media" . Make sure that the linksys CD is inserted in the CD ROM drive,
browse and select it (next option). Windows should be able to find the
updated driver on the CD. Install it and ignore any error that indicates
that the driver may not be WHQL certified.

Follow the instructions. This should do.
