When you forward, you generate a *new* e-mail. By default, Outlook is
configured to save a copy of your sent e-mails in the Sent Items folder.

No the sent items folder has been cleared
Then look in the Deleted Items folder to where deleted items get *moved*
(i.e., they aren't really deleted, just moved). They won't be there if
you permanently delete the items (by deleting them from the Deleted
Items folder or using Shift+Del to permanently delete the items). If
you erase your records, you don't have them to use for reference. So
dust off your backups.
