Forward messages by Rules Wizard in outlook 2003 get marked as rea

Using Outlook 2003 sp3 on Exchange 2007 I have a simple rule to foward
everthing that comes into the default inbox to a different recipient.

The forwarding works but after roughly 3-5 minutes the email changes to read
from unread. This happens no matter if the forward address is an internal
address or internet smtp address.

I also tried setting up exchange to deliver to the intended recipient as
well as forward to a different recipient. Same result.

Any and all help would be appreciated.

instead of forward, try "redirect", and if you want a copy for the original
account, create a folder "processed mail" and save a copy there. anything in
that folder has been processed or redirected to the new recipient.

Thanks for the post...

I just don't understand why the message is getting marked read. If I do
this exact same rule (this is the only rule) on another machine different
account, it works as expected. Forwards and leaves the mail unread

I even tried deleting the user's profile thinking there was something hosed
with the install but nothing changed.

couple things to consider, is the original email account set up on another
computer (maybe yours as a POP3 account) to control or monitor the original
account? if yes, your settings could actually be marking the emails read.
(i learnt this one the hard way.) you would be better off creating a dumb
profile for user1 on your machine with their exchange settings, create the
rules, delete the profile. repeat as necessary.

another is where does the rule reside, on the server as a server rule or
local rule? Since you have Exchange 2007, make all rules exchage rules,
there's supposed to be enough space to have 5 or 6 times the amount of rules
as Exchange 2003.

Click Tools>Options>Other>Reading Pane and uncheck the boxed telling Outlook
to mark your messages as read.
