formatting problems

I have a dvd ram on my xp machine, days ago i did format
this drive using roxio5,this was a big mistake, now i'm
trying to use the widows format and it does not let me do
it, can anybody help me with this?

Install xp cd,boot to cd,choose recovery,at the curser
type:FORMAT C: /FS:ntfs
If problems arise type:FORMAT /?
When its thru type:EXIT
Format deletes all info.C: being the hd.ntfs the file
system.If asked for password to recovery,press enter key
