formatting hard drive

hi ihave 2 hard drives 60gb with windows xp pro and a old
20gb with 98se.
i would like format the 20gb drive but i get the message
it can't be donei would appreciate if any one can advice
how to do this

Hi, nrm.

HOW are you trying to format the drive?

Physically install it as a secondary HD in your computer. Then reboot into
WinXP and use Disk Management to reformat the drive. If you like, Disk
Management can first delete the existing partition(s) and create one or more
new partitions. Full details are in the Help file reached from Disk
Management.

There are several ways to find Disk Management. One is to type at the Run
prompt: diskmgmt.msc

Study the Disk Management utility. It does a lot that we used to do with
other tools in MS-DOS. It creates partitions, deletes them, formats them,
assigns and reassigns drive letters...

If you still can't format the drive, tell us exactly what you tried and what
results you saw.
