when i installed xp,i was asked to partition the disk,. thus i
assigned my 20gb (quarter of my 80gb drive), to the OS and programs.
Looking at 'MY COMPUTER' tells me drive C is only 20gb. How do i get
back the missing 60gb maxtor drive and allocate that a letter ?

Right-click on MY COMPUTER and select MANAGE.
When COMPUTER MANAGEMENT opens, click on
DISK MANAGEMENT. Right-click on UNALLOCATED
space and select NEW PARTITION and the NEW PARTITION
WIZARD will appear.

cheers carey,

one more thing...will i lose any data files (docs photos etc), when i
create the new partitions ?

Depends on how you do it, what partitioning software do you
have? Partition Magic will not (if all goes well) harm your
data. Other third party partitioning programs shouldn't.
But any partitioning software, particularly if used
carelessly, has the potential to cause data loss if misused.
XPs built in partitioning software in disk management, can,
I think, create a new partition in unallocated space without
data loss in the allocated space, but I'm not sure it can
resize or split an existing partition without data loss.
