Formatting buttons greyed out

Outlook 2000 question:

When I go to create a new message, all formatting buttons are greyed out
(font, size, center, etc.)

Tried removing Outlook and reinstalling, removing account and re-entering
but no luck. Other Office products OK.

Help !!
 
What format of message are you trying to create? Plain Text messages have
those options greyed out since it's Plain Text
