Format hard drive and reinstalling Home XP????

Hi!,
Could someone explain how can I reformat my hard drive and reinstall Windows
Home XP on it??? I had Win98 upgrade on it and reformatted my hard drive and
used the Win98 startup/boot disk that was created from a previous setup of
win98!!!
So I'm in dos mode, had just finished reformatting hard drive in dos mode ,
I put the home xp setup disk in and the system says it can't install xp in
dos mode!!
So all I knew to do was to install win98 upgrade on the hard drive then
install Home XP after I was now in windows and it installed over the old
win98 upgrade system!!!
How do you refomat your hard drive if win xp will not install under dos
mode??
What if I decide to get a new hard drive also, how would I go about
reinstalling win home xp without having to refomat in dos mode reinsatll
win98 upgrade to get to windows then reinstall win home xp???
Thanks for response!!!

Set you computer to boot from the CD-Rom as first boot device; put the
WinXP HE Cd in, and re-boot. Follow the screen prompts.
