Format hard Drive and Reinstal XP

I have a major "blue screen" problem.
I have been having problems with crashes and thought the easy way was to
format C and reinstal Xp. I have done this many times on 98 and thought this
would be just as easy. I have a HP pavilion by the way but with a full
version of XP not the "fix" partition. I booted the computer from the Xp disk
and ran it to the "welcome to setup" page when there was the option of "fix"
or view the partitions. My intention was to delete the working partition
reformat and load a fresh XP OS. Whichever version I chose I got a "blue
crash". The screen varied but a typical was:

Page_fault_in_non_page_area
STOP: 0x00000050 (0xeddfsd64,0x00000000,0xF8123257, 0x00000000)
ntfs.sys - Address F8123257 base at F8122000 Datestamp 41107eea

at one point I actually got as far as the option to delete the system
partition (so I could reload XP over) but I received another "blue crash" as:

Driver_IRQL_Not_Less_or_Equal_To
0x000000D1 (0x83002454, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0xF866688F)
Classpnp.sys Address F866688F base at F8666000 datestamp 41107ec2

Is this a Xp problem or something more drastic.

You'll probably want to replace the defective RAM before proceeding.
Because there is a slight chance that the RAM might not be the problem,
test it first: http://www.memtest86.com/

Open the cabinet take out the RAM sticks and blow out all the dust from the
ram and then reseat them back and check whether you further get any blue
screen !
