Stop 0x00000050, ntfs.sys BSOD

My system:
ASUS A8N-E mobo
AMD Athlon 64 3700+ cpu
Corsair XMS 2GB PC3200 mem
(2) WD740GD HDs (no RAID)
NEC ND2550A DVD
Lite-on SOHO DVD-ROM (don't remember the model #)
Windows XP Pro w/SP2

Last night while installing a Nero utility, I received the following error:

STOP: 0x00000050 (0xF7B60000, 0x00000001, 0xF7074F4E, 0x00000000)

PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

ntfs.sys - address F7074F4E base at F7073000, datestamp 41107EEA

Now, no matter what I do (short of reinstalling the OS, which I haven't
tried), I get the same error message. I've tried every safe mode boot option,
I even tried to repair the install from the CD, but I keep getting the same
BSOD.

I've searched the KB and the forums and can't find anything that relates
specifically to XP. I found one link that was broken, so that didn't help.

If anyone has some insight or any ideas whatsoever, please share!

Thanks,
-Haplo

For argument's sake, I reseated both memory modules. I even pulled one out at
a time. Same result. The link Will referenced, though useful for some things,
was not useful to this problem. I only found a few links based on my specific
problem and all but one were broken links. The other was irrelevant.

Since I can no longer even attempt a fresh install and the recovery console
also BSOD's, I am left with no alternative but to start from scratch with PM
8 and reformat the disks. Unless of course by some miracle someone (else?) is
able to point me in another direction. It is too late this evening to
undertake such a monumental task, so I hope I my find additional insight by
tomorrow afternon.

I appreciate the comments left so far and I don't mean to sound rude, but I
am so fed up with this product that this will be the last time I ever use it
on my own machine.

p.s. This is a fresh install on brand new hardware and XP was actually
running for two weeks (with only the most basic installation - no drivers, no
apps, no nothing) before this problem.

When I performed a check using PM8, it gave me error #1516 - Partition
improperly dismounted. Of course, the solution is to run chkdsk /f, which is
a near impossibility under XP (unless I'm missing something here...) I did
find what sounds like a nice utility for performing DOS-like operations on
NTFS filesystems and I'm going to give that a try tonight. Now if I could
only figure out how this happened in the first place...

Hi Haplo,

Man, you sounded depressed. I'm getting same problem. First few times I am
able to use the repair function from the CD. But, now that doesn't work as
well. I have consulted MS customer service and was told a possible problem is
faulty or incompatible RAM. See this link for further details -
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=171003&sd=RMVP

I don't have this problem with my Thinkpad. So either this is one of those
weird bug in my PC or its really a fault with the RAM.

Suggest we keep close watch on this thread. Eitherway, whoever finds a
solution post it here.

Cheers.

My problem seems to be resolved; at least for now. I removed both RAM strips
and cleaned away a layer of dust. This seemed to work as over a week now the
problem did not recur. Otherwise I would have the problem recurring every
other day.

I followed instructions from the following website -
http://www.kingston.com/tools/umg/umg08.asp

Also Wikipedia has links to some resources for problems which may involve
RAMs - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Random_access_memory

Cheers
