format cdrw

there is no help information on windows xp on how to
format a cdrw. don't you think that is stupid that
microsoft doesn't provide this help topic?
the only help on xp help says to click on the drive and
go under files and click format. there is no format under
files.
another microsoft screw up!
when I put a blank cdrw into the drive it just comes up
with stupid errors. no help there either because even the
error messages don't say what the problem is about or how
to fix it.
when i go to microsoft to get help it says all incidents
for this xp windows have been used up. so no help there
either.
basically, microsoft doesn't have a clue about how to do
what should be a simple task, there is no help topic in
windows xp, using the website is a waste of time- no help
there either.
basically, trying to format a cd is a hopeless task if we
have to depend on windows xp and microsoft to provide any
help.

Nope, not stupid, that function which is a part of packet writing software
is not supported by the integrated CD burning function in Windows XP.

What you wish to do requires third party software such as the Direct CD or
Drag to Disk component of Easy CD Creator, www.roxio.com or the InCD
component of Nero, www.nero.com, please see the websites for version and
drive compatibility with XP.

Strange, with just WinXP Pro installed, I can right click
on a CD/RW when I insert it, and select format right from
the menu. Don't know why you don't see it. Plus,
drag 'n drop files, one click and they are burnt. No
issue on this end.

If you are able to drag and drop directly to disk, you must have third party
software installed. If dragging and dropping only sends it to a temporary
area and then burned and creates a disk to which you cannot add and delete
files after the first burn, then that's XP's system. InCD uses the format
command on the context, right click, menu, other than that, the format
command is different from how a CD is formatted.
