Forgotten Password

Hi,
I have forgotten the admin password on my laptop. I am able to
login into the recovery console (from the repair option on the Windows
XP CD) though and would like to know of how to change my password from
the recovery console. Is there any way to use net user from the
console? Any help will be appreciated , Thx.

Hi Ravi,

You can download the PC Beginner CD from http://www.pcbeginner.com and
use the Password Recovery tool to reset/blank your password. I found my
lost admin password with this tool, it's very powerfull. I hope it can
help you.

What admin password? Do you mean the password on the account you normally
use to login to windows and that account has admin privileges?

To get into the recovery console you need to enter the password for the
built in Administrator account. So you have that password, no? If that's
the case then just login to the built in Administrator account and reset the
password on your admin account. For XP Pro at the Welcome Screen do
Ctrl-Alt-Del twice to get the login dialog box, enter Administrator as the
user name and the password. For XP Home boot into safe mode. Administrator
will show up on the welcome screen.

No AFAIK, you can't change it from the recovery console.

Thanks for all ure replies. Since I knew the admin passwd it was quite
simpler than i had feared. And yeah, you cannot use "net user" from the
recovery console.

Thanks for the Ctrl Alt Del suggestion, Didnt know the option
was avbl in the welcome screen mode too.
