Using xp prof and when I on the pc , on the log on page is "Administrator".

Somehow I cannot log in now as I cannot remember the password. I follow some
of the suggestions in this forum, ALT/CTLR/DEL tiwce, it will bring me to the
logon windows dialogue page.

I type in the user as Administrator. password leave it as blank and hit
enter. I get the following message
'The system could not log ypou on. Make sure your user name and domain are
correct, then type in your passwor again"

Is there a simplier way other than reformatting? Thanks.

With reference to the article you mentioned,
http://pubs.logicalexpressions.com/pub0009/LPMArticle.asp?ID=305

are we suppose to hit the first 'R' that is the Recovery Console or the 2nd
"R" during the Set Up. It appears to me that it refers to the first "R" but
Vic Ferri comments is that we dont need the Recovery Console. Need some
clarification here please.

This article "How to log on to Windows XP if you forget your password or your
password expires" http://support.microsoft.com/kb/321305/en-us "

apply to those if you know the password of the Administrator. In any case I
tried it out as it seems to be the easiest but I get no way.

Look forward for further assistance, thanks

Not really. There is always another user account with administrative
privileges by default and in parallel to the "Administrator" account
after installing WinXP.
In any case I tried it out as it seems to be the easiest but I get
no way.

"Method 2" in the article above works from that user account.

Well, that's a different issue. Install "TweakUI" under an adminitrative
account that you can access.
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx

TweakUI > Logon > Settings. Tick that missing account. Since you have
WinXP Pro installed, you'll find also the option 'Show "Administrator"
on Welcome screen'.

Failing that, Linux-based password cracking utilities abound on the
Internet, freely available to anyone who can use Google.
