I had 3 domain controllers all running on workstation
hardware. I recently bought 3 new servers and have built
them as DC (Win 2k). I want to demote the original
servers. I have moved all of the FSMO roles to the new
servers and have made 2 of them GC's.

Is there anything else I need to do before running
DCPromo??

Thanks in advance

Hi Lee

Make sure key services reside on the new servers. DNS, DHCP etc. Anything
that was running on the original servers that's key to AD/FRS and general
environment functionality.

Kind regards

Lee,

At first I was confused when I read your post. Everything was clear up to
the last sentence. I initially read it to be dcpromoing the new servers to
be Domain Controllers. But then it hit me that you meant dcpromoing the
three workstation class systems ( read: removing them from being Domain
Controllers ).

Make sure that any services that need to be transferred are indeed
transferred. Make sure that all of your shared resources are completely
transferred and accessible. Pretty much what Mark suggested. You will have
to change the scope on your DHCP Server so that your clients will have the
correct information ( read: correct DNS Server information - BTW, only your
Internal DNS Servers should be mentioned in there. The only place for your
ISP's DNS Server IP Information is in the Forwarders tab in your DNS MMC ).

You might also want to make sure that your DNS does not harbor any 'old'
references to the former DCs.

HTH,

Cary
