Foreign language toolbars

In Word 2003 I downloaded French, Dutch and German toolbars (I can't remember
from where), which contained certain characters such as ê or ö. You just
clicked on the required character and it was inserted into the document. I've
recently installed Office 2007 and despite many searches can't find anything.
Can anybody please point me in the right direction?

What you describe is the International Characters Toolbar for Word 2003 -
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...9a4-4a01-8382-dfe35bcbac03&displaylang=enThis is a COM add-in for Word. Whether it will work with 2007 I cannot say.--<>>< ><<> ><<> <>>< ><<> <>>< <>><<>Graham Mayor - Word MVPMy web site www.gmayor.comWord MVP web site http://word.mvps.org<>>< ><<> ><<> <>>< ><<> <>>< <>><<>Nicol du Toit wrote:> In Word 2003 I downloaded French, Dutch and German toolbars (I can't> remember from where), which contained certain characters such as ê or> ö. See http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/General/InsertSpecChars.htm. There are
built-in keyboard shortcuts for all the characters you mention.

I used to be able to type these characters, but it doesn't work any more. Is
there some way to toggle this feature back on?

I tried that, but the French keyboard is arranged quite differently from the
one we use--e.g, when you type the "a" key you get a "q" and there are about
20 other keys that are also different. That's even more cumbersome that
using the "insert character" routine.

I don't know what I did to turn off the "keystroke combinations" feature,
but if it is a built-in, there must some way to get it back. I'm using
Office 2007 Home and Student edition on XP. Can you please dig a little
deeper and see if there is a way to revive the keystroke combinations?

You don't have to enable French; try United States-International.

Glad I could help. I personally find the built-in shortcuts adequate for the
amount of French I type, but I can see that if you were going to be doing a
lot of it, an international keyboard layout would help.
