My websites are coming up with a font on certain lines -
not all - that is bold, small, and hard to read. Changing
the font settings under tools doesn't help. Does anyone
know how I get this font to change back to a better style?
Thanks
Karen

Try under view>text size instead?

Rats - worked on one website, but not on others. It's
pretty strange - only some fonts are affected, not all. I
had downloaded a couple of foreign language font updates,
then removed them, so I'm not sure what's going on. Tried
to reload IE6, but it sees the existing version and goes
into reboot do-loop.

What operating system? (W98, XP etc)

I have the same problem. The words in the headers and on
tabs are fuzzy, while the text in the main body are
fine. My Netscape browser looks great though! But,
would like to consolidate into using all MS products for
easier upgrading.

No, it's a 14" flat screen. Haven't had any problems with
the fonts before, just since getting rid of the foreign
language downloads. I was able to reinstall IE6, but
still get the same funny font intermittently.

I didn't get rid of any foreign language downloads and I
still have the problem. Try and get MS help and you go
around in circles between Dell and MS, or they want $35.
They seem to be pretty useless.

Karen,
What operating system are you using? XP?

Yes - the home/search/FAQ/etc line and Subject/From/Seal
on this newsgroup window are the ones effected. I did a
copy/paste into Word on the bad font and it comes up as
Verdana - that's not what's in my font window under
tools...

Agree with MS Useless!! I'm using Windows ME - the
problem just started a few days ago, how long has it been
happening for you?

I was about to suggest repairing IE, but with another person complaining of
the same thing - then go get this:
AdAware.
http://www.lavasoft.de/software/adaware/
update it after download then run it twice, either side a reboot.
If you want to try the repair?

try this to repair IE, click

Start > Run

then enter exactly (case/space-sensitive) copy/paste it in.

rundll32.exe setupwbv.dll,IE5Maintenance

this will give you the IE Repair dialog... proceed to repair IE - re-boot
and see if
this helps.

Mac,
Thank you for the help - I tried them both and still no
joy, still have the same font. I've had Ad Aware for some
time and use it appx weekly. Interestingly, it found the
same bug each time I ran it today, think it got it the 2nd
time.

It's a long shot, but check Internet Options> General> Accessibility. For
most users, nothing should be checked. Style sheet isn't checked, is it?

I have this problem too. It's totally infuriating,
because I never have any of those problems with the same
version of the same program (IE6) on the exact same
website on my other computer. My own website does it, as
do many other people's as well. The text looks doubled
and shadowed. I have no idea how to fix it... I was
wondering whether it is related to CSS coding? Dargh!

Karen,

I am having the exact same problem... I know what you mean that the font size problem only appears on certain web pages. It happens to me on craigslist.com, for example, and a couple of blogs I've visited. I just recently got a new computer with Windows XP Home... this problem was not happening on my old PC which had XP Pro, but I don't know if that has anything to do with it.

The fonts are not only too small, but the letters appear to be jagged and a little bit squished together.

I was just wondering if you found a solution yet Karen? Or anyone else out there that has had and fixed this problem? THanks!

Kristi

Kristi,
Display Properties | General [tab] | DPI settings = ?? (default = 96)

Display Properties | Appearance [tab] | Effects [button]
Is "Clear Type" selected? (try both options)

Just Curious when this anomaly happens if you Goto
View > Text Size > I would bet it is set to smaller.
If you change this to medium it will temporarily fix the
problem.

Note this setting changes at random.
Also another fix is Goto
Tools > Internet Options > Accessibility > Ignore font
sizes.

This has been recommended but as a web developer this
causes all kinds of problems. You can't view web pages
with the font that you size specify.

The view > Text Size setting needs a Lock put on it.
Believe it or not I have suffered an eye injury because
of this setting and that is why I even bothered writing
this post

The font gets smaller and at first you just get closer to
the screen and closer and closer until your eyes are
burned out of your head from the heat of the monitor.

Does anyone have a solution to the mysterious changing of
the text size setting in IE.

Hopefully this will get fixed before I get back from the
eye doctor.
