Font Switching

While typing a document in Word, I frequently use shortcut keys to insert
symbols. Now while in a document, when I am using my default font and trying
to insert a symbol, the font automatically switches to Mincho and puts in a
different symbol. How do I correct this?

I don't know, but if you find out, I'd like to know, too. FWIW, I find this
happens primarily in documents based on "legacy" templates. The characters I
have the most trouble with are em and en spaces.
