Folders will not display thumbnails in Thumbnail View

Hi. When I set a folder (My Pictures) to Thumbnail View, all the .bmp
files show thumbnails, but the .gif and .jpg files still show generic
icons. What do I need to do to correct this problem? I'm running
Windows 2000 Professional, Service Pack 4.

Thanks,
Roger Carlson

Hi

The fix is quite simple. I had to do it about 6 months ago. It is just a
case of changing a single entry in the registry.

I am buggered if I can remember what it was. Sorry. However AFAIR it is
ion several web site so do a google on it.

search on bmp and jpg in the registry.

Unfortunately I don't know how to edit the registry. Could someone
please explain exactly what I need to do to fix this. Thanks.

Copy paste the following 4 lines into notepad.

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.jpg\ShellEx\{BB2E617C-0920-11d1-9A0B-00C04FC2D6C1}]
@="{7376D660-C583-11d0-A3A5-00C04FD706EC}"

Save the file as fixjpg.txt
rename the fixjpg.txt file to fixjpg.reg
right-click the fixjpg.reg file and press Merge.
Confirm the update.

I am also running Windows 2000 and recently loaded Microsoft Office 2003 and
now the thumbnail view does not work. I tried the fix and did the regedit
but it still does not work. Any other ideas????
