folders resetting

Izzy

I want different folder settings. I have the box marked to
have each folder remember it's setting under folder
options, but it doesn't remember - say I set a certain one
to be "icons" -- it keeps resetting back to "lists". I've
tried resetting all folder options, but the individual
folders keep resetting. Please help.

It will only remember the setting you make only if that's the window you
opened.
In other words, if you opened up windows explorer at "c:\" which is set with
a "list view" then click down to "c:\program files" then change the view to
"icon view" and close the window. the next time you open "c:\program files"
on windows explorer it will keep whatever original setting it had before
(presumably the "list view" in this sample scenario). so to keep the view at
"icon view", at first open "c:\program files" window directly (without
clicking down to here from any other folder or directory) then change the
view to "icon view"; it will stay as "icon view" the next time you open it.

Give it a whirl, get a good night sleep and call the doctor in the morning.

:) Hope this helps.

In addition:

Windows remembers 400 folder settings. When that number is reached some
settings aren't retained any longer. You can change this to 8000 by adding
this edit to the registry.

Run this edit, then reset your preferred folder options:

Increase Folder View Options Limit: (Line 2)

To use the Regedit: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it
and answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in Notepad by
right clicking on the file and selecting Edit.
