Folders are empty

Hey

I'm desperately in need of help. I'm running windows 2000
currently. Ever since about a month ago my computer
started reporting all my folders as empty ( 0 files). All
the folders however, are still on the drives and the used
space on each hard disk is still the same. If I download a
program or a file to the hard drive it remains where I put
it until the computer is restart at which point its
missing again.

Does anyone having idea what type of problem I am
experiencing, and how it may be fixed.

Thanks in advance

Jerome

What do you see when you do this:
- Click Start, then Run, then type cmd.exe {OK}
- Type this:
dir /s /ah c:\Jerome*.*
where "Jerome" refers to one of the files you think are
missing. What do you see?
- Now type this:
dir /s c:\Jerome*.*
What do you see now?

If you cannot remember any file names, creating a new
file, jot down its name, then reboot to make it "disappear".

Do you have an up-to-date virus scanner & firewall?
