Yikes !!
I've been using outlook to file emails in personal folders. Now I seem to
have hit a limit barrier.
Personal folders is allmost 2 GIG.
I can no longer copy emails to the personal folders !

I still want to retain the emails. Can I create another totally separate
personal folder - say PersonalFolderII , which
the OP sys sees as a different file, to overcome this limit ....

TIA

You bet. You can either create one yourself with File>New>Outlook Data File
(for Outlook 2002 or later) or File>new>Personal Folders File for Outlook
2000 and earlier and move data to it manually, or you can enable the
Autoarchive feature on Tools>Options>Other>Autoarchive and let Outlook
handle moving older messages automatically.

By the way, always state your Outlook version. If, for example, you're
using Outlook 2003 or 2007, there are ways to rid yourself of the 2GB limit
and continue to have all your mail available in a single PST.

Not sure if this helps but you can always compress the pst file.
Alternatively you can archive your e-mail which will reduce the size of your
Outlook.pst file but increase your Archive.pst file size

What I did was archived e-mails I do not need to the Archive.pst file,
renamed it to say Archive.pst.old and created a new Archive.pst file. You
will not be able to use the "old" pst file until you rename it back.

Warning...before you do this, if you are not sure what you are doing,
back-up your Outlook directory.

Hope that helps...

Hi Brian,

Can you tell me where to look for the info on ways of ridding myself of the
2GB limit on a pst file? I am using Outlook 2003 and Wndows XP Pro.

Tks

By creating a new pst file in 2003 format. Do File-New-Outlook Data File and
do NOT choose the Outlook 97/2002 format...
