Folder Shortcut

How can one make a shortcut to a folder act as a folder. What I mean is that
programs do not see shortcuts to folders as actual folders.

If for example I move the contents of folder1 to folder2 and create a
shortcut named folder1 to point to folder2 all programs come up with missing
files. Is there a way around this.

No the program accesses it drectly. For example templates must be located in
one particular folder and I need to move them to a server.

It depends on the program and whether that ability was coded in. For
instance, in MS Office Options you can set default file locations where
you want, such as on a server. Maybe Corel Word Perfect doesn't let you
do this (I don't know this; I'm just using it as an example). What
program uses the templates?

Thanks I got around the issue of the templates but now my problem is with
clipart. I want to put them on a server to be accesabile to every one. The
Clip art dicussion group suggested a method but with their method I loose all
keywords for the search. So I thought of creating a shortcut instead of the
actual directory but it seems that clip organiser does not recognise it.
