Folder Sharing: Network Locations

G

Guest

Im currently networking 3 PC's and using 1 to store most of the data, then
have the data shared for access via the other PC's on the network.

One of the PC's need's to be networked to access various folders but not all
of them.

eg.
Folder 1 (needs to be accessible by whole network)
Folder 2 (only needs to be accessible by one of the PC's)

I have tried changing the folders securiity / sharing permissions but cant
seem to allow only 1 of the PC's access.

I see you can limit what users can access the folder, but when I go to
change the location to one of the networked PC's it only shows the PC that im
sharing the folder from.

Can someone please explain how to get the networked PC's to show in this
locations section, or is there another way to block certain PC's gaining
access.

This might all sound fairly unclear, if it is please ask me for more details
if need be.

It isn't possible to control folder access based on what computer
wants access.

As you've discovered, you can control access based on user names.
Create an account on the server PC for each person, with the same user
name and password that they use to log onto other computers.
Permissions that you set up for those accounts will apply to the same
people when they access shared folders over the network.
